January 23 Québec, Qué. Parti Québécois House Leader Robert Burns announced his support for the inclusion of a sexual orientation clause in the proposed provincial Human Rights Charter after representatives of three gay organizations (Roger Bellemare, Luc Doré, and Denise Goyette, representing CHUM, AHM/GMA, and SEHQ) presented briefs to the Quebec Assembly's Justice Committee. Jérôme Choquette, Quebec's Minister of Justice, conceded that gay people had faced discrimination and did not dismiss the possibility that sexual orientation would be included in the proposed Charter. This was the first time that representatives of the gay movement had appeared before a Canadian legislative body. (see also June 25, 1975)
