Description

October 6-7 Québec, Qué. The first pan-Canadian conference of gay organizations was hosted by CHAL. More than eighty delegates from twenty groups attended. Workshops were held on the NGEC questionnaire, relationships between gay men and lesbians, homosexuality and the Catholic church, gay pride week, and homosexuality and aging. During the proceedings divisions within CHAL surfaced when a dissident group gathered to protest CHAL'S representation of Quebec's gays, complaining that its approach was too conservative. Most of the progressive members left CHAL soon after the conference, but CHAL continued to flourish with a large male and female membership, under the leadership of Denise Goyette.
