Description

February Vancouver The Canadian Gay Activists Alliance (CGAA) was formed and opened an office at 1604-1320 Bute Street. The CGAA was a breakaway group from the Vancouver GLF. Compared to the GLF it was relatively conservative and attempted to work for gay liberation within the existing structure of society. The CGAA sponsored drop-ins, political action, educational projects, a speaker's bureau, a library, and the newsletter Open Doors, as well as a twenty-four-hour gayline and a job placement service. The CGAA eventually had numerous committees, including committees on women's issues, transsexuals, transvestites, counselling and referrals, and provincial and federal affairs. Dick Rulens was the chairperson of CGAA. By March 1972, the CGAA'S drop-ins had moved to the Gordon House Community Centre, 1068 Davie Street. The CGAA was active until at least May 1973. (see also November 1970, May 1971 and June 27, 1971.)
