Description

June 27 Vancouver The first general meeting of the Gay Alliance toward Equality (GATE) (Vancouver) was held at the Unitarian Centre Hall. The Burrard Street YMCA had refused to rent a room to GATE for the meeting. Members of GATE complained about the incident to the British Columbia Human Rights Commission. John Sherlock, director of the Commission, responded that it could not act because the province's Human Rights Act did not protect people from discrimination based on sexual orientation.
