Description

June 2 Kingston, Ont. Candidates from each party met at Ellis Hall, Queen's University, to discuss their individual views and their party's policy regarding gays. Candidates present were Mr. Phair, Mr. Norton (PC), Mr. Clements (NDP), Ms. Andrews (Communist) and Mr. Watson (Liberal and school board trustee). The opinions on gay rights were that the PC party policy was to ignore gays. The NDP supported most of the demands of CGRO (but the candidate himself felt "uncomfortable" discussing issues with homosexuals). The Communist party and the candidate present both supported gay rights. The Liberal candidate said he did not know there were more gays than unemployed people in Ontario. He used the word homosexual once.
