Description

July 16 Vancouver After three days of hearings on the Vancouver Sun's appeal of the January 12 ruling by the British Columbia Human Rights Commission, Justice James A. Macdonald of the B.C. Supreme Court withheld judgement pending further study of the arguments presented in the case. The Sun had been found guilty of discriminating against the Gay Alliance toward Equality (GATE) (Vancouver) by refusing to publish an ad for Gay Tide. On August 16, 1976, Justice Macdonald dismissed the appeal, saying that he found "no legal basis for interfering with the finding." The Sun appealed the decision to the B.C. Court of Appeal.
