April 17 Victoria, B.C. Six men and women officially formed the Gay People's Alliance (GPA) to promote lesbian and gay pride, equality, and liberation in Victoria. Randy Notte became the group's first chairperson, GPA became affiliated with the NGEC and its first political actions involved questioning local candidates about gay civil rights issues during the campaign leading up to the federal election of July 8, 1974. The GPA collapsed in the autumn of 1974 when Notte moved to Toronto. (see also June 18,1974.)
