Description

March Victoria, B.C. A leaflet commenting on the sad state of gay liberation in Victoria was distributed by Randy Notte. It stated, in part, that "In Victoria... gay people have few places to be with one another. If such places are not basically straight, they are patrolled extensively by the police. As a result, most gays in this city are lonely and isolated." The leaflet caused a sensation. Notte was threatened by a number of closeted gays and was called by the RCMP. This incident was the impetus for the formation on April 17, 1974, of the Gay People's Alliance, the first gay liberation group in Victoria. (see also April 17,1974.)
