March 15 Toronto Karl John Roestad, thirty-eight, was sentenced by Judge Lloyd Graburn to an indefinite term of preventive detention as a dangerous sexual offender. Roestad had pleaded guilty to twenty counts of indecent assault involving boys between eight and thirteen years old. The Roestad case attracted much attention because it was the first time in ten years that the Crown in Ontario had sought to convict someone as a dangerous sexual offender, liable to life imprisonment.
