Description

Toronto Mazo de la Roche of Jalna, Ronald Hambleton's biography of Canadian writer Mazo de la Roche, was published by General Publishing. De la Roche (1879-1961) had gained world-wide fame through her Jalna novels. For more than seventy years, she was involved in a very close relationship with her adopted sister Caroline Clement (who was actually a first cousin once removed). They were inseparable; according to Hambleton, came to be seen as "almost Mazo's other self" (p. 16). Nowhere does he imply, however, that their relationship was in any way sexual. (see also 1972.)
