Biography
Del Martin was a lesbian feminist and gay-rights activist. She helped found Daughters of Bilitis in 1955, which was the first political organization for lesbians in the US. She and her wife were the first same sex couple to be married in San Francisco in 2004, but it was nullified. In 2008 they were the first same-sex couple to be married in San Francisco after same-sex marriage was legalized in California.
