Biography

Reverend McLeod was the moderator of the United Church of Canada. In March 1974 he said that Christians should not prejudge homosexuals. He was also a member of the Ontario Human Rights Campaign (OHRC) and a strong supporter of a sexual orientation amendment. He left the OHRC in early 1978 with the appointment of Dorothea Crittenden as chairperson. Crittenden had said that sexual orientation human rights legislation was a "non-issue." In 1981 McLeod won the Liberal nomination for the St. George riding in Toronto, defeating openly gay opponent Peter Maloney but lost the municipal election to Conservative candidate Susan Fish. In recognition of his work for human rights he received a certificate of appreciation at the third annual Festival of Love in 1981.
