Spring Ottawa Pat Carney (PC –Vancouver Centre) announced that she would introduce a private member's bill in the House of Commons to add sexual orientation to the proscribed grounds of discrimination in the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Canadian Bill of Rights. Carney introduced the bill on May 2, 1980. At about the same time, Svend Robinson (NDP –Burnaby) announced that he, too, would be introducing a private member's bill dealing with sexual orientation as well as other recommendations released in the recent annual report of the CHRC.
