October 21 Toronto At a meeting initiated by GLU and RTPC, Toronto police agreed to make efforts to stop the abuse and violence directed at gay people by the mob that traditionally gathered outside the St. Charles Tavern on Yonge Street during Halloween. Despite similar promises in previous years, the police had been ineffective in controlling the thousands of people who gathered, some of whom threw eggs and stones at anyone suspected on being gay.
