Description

April 3 Victoria, B.C. During a meeting of the British Columbia Human Rights Commission, commissioner Ted Pearce suggested that they should establish a "take-a-gay-to-lunch day." This was only one of several derogatory remarks about women and gays that Pearce made that day. Several complaints were lodged against Pearce, and B.C.'s Minister of Labour Allan Williams said that he would investigate. On May 1, 1979, the Commission issued a press release to apologize for remarks made during the meeting. (See also May 3, 1979.)
