Description

December 7 Québec, Qué. An amendment to the Change of Name Act was passed in the Québec National Assembly. It permitted transsexuals to obtain from the Québec Minister of Justice a change of designation of gender and name in civil status registers. This was the first legislation of its kind passed in Canada. On the same day, the PQ introduced the first reading of an amendment to article ten of the Québec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms that would include protection from discrimination based on sexual orientation.
