May Kingston, Ont. Wages Due […]

Description

May Kingston, Ont. Wages Due Lesbians sent a letter to all members explaining that many lesbian women would not attend the Kingston Conference on Lesbians and the Gay movement as it was open to men: "We feel very strongly that we cannot and need not continue to subordinate our interests to those of the gay men. We must have our own public events, where we can meet as women to find our own voice, where we can organize on the basis of our particular situation as lesbian women against our exploitation as housewives at home, on the second job, and within the gay movement." Only a few women from Wages Due Lesbians participated in the conference in order to contact other lesbians about an upcoming women-only workshop and to announce the upcoming conference on lesbianism and the Wages for Housework Campaign (in July). The letter also asked that other women, lesbians and gay men support the decision by sending them a support letter.
