Description

November 15 Québec The Parti Québécois (PQ) under René Lévesque won a sweeping victory in a provincial election; it was the only party in the election that had publicly supported gay rights. In the campaign leading up to the election, members of GO and ADGQ were active in querying candidates about civil rights for gays in Québec. Several Liberal and Créditiste candidates were openly hostile. In the wake of the PQ victory, the ADGQ launched a public campaign aimed at winning legal protection for gays in the Québec Human Rights Charter and the Canadian Human Rights Act.
