Description
March 8 Montréal At a general meeting of the AHM/GMA, over one-third (predominantly francophone) of the members present voted in favour of a non-confidence resolution and asked that the group's leadership resign immediately. This was a manifestation of frustrations that had been growing within the group. Some members raised questions of financial irregularities related to the proceeds from the monthly McGill dances, sponsored by the AHM/GMA. Others questioned the perceived inertia and timidity of the group's leadership. More explosive still were accusations by francophone members that their concerns were being ignored in the officially bilingual, but predominantly anglophone, organization. These problems led to a split in the AHM/GMA and the formation of the francophone-dominated Front homosexuel Québécois de liberation (FHQL) by March 18, 1974. (see also March 18,1974.)
