October Ottawa Although the Department of the Secretary of State had invited more than seventy Canadian women's groups to participate in the International Women's Year Consultation, not one lesbian group was invited to the conference. The conference had been called to set priorities for Canadian celebrations during International Women's Year (1975). The women's organizations became upset with the government's plans, complaining of misdirected initiatives and inadequate funding for grass-roots organizing.
