Description

August 31-September 2 Winnipeg The second annual national gay conference was attended by seventy-five delegates representing two dozen organizations. Sponsored by GFE and held at the University of Manitoba, the conference included workshops, discussions, and plenary sessions. Some tension was evident between representatives of gay clubs and social organizations who supported low-key events, and the gay liberationists, who favoured public demands for gay rights. During a plenary session, Ron Dayman presented a proposal on behalf of GATE (Toronto) suggesting that the NGRC/CNDH be established as the permanent successor to the NGEC. On August 31, about eighty people took part in the National Gay March from the Richardson Building to the Manitoba Legislature; this was the first such march and rally held on the Prairies.
