Description

June 27 Montréal An open house was held to mark the official opening of the Centre d'accueil homophile/Gay Community Centre at 3439, rue St. Denis. The Centre, founded by Tony Farebrother and several other members of Gay McGill, offered a drop-in, social functions, counselling, and a gayline. At about the same time the Association homophile de Montrdal/Gay Montreal Association (AHM/GMA) was formed and took offices at the Gay Community Centre. Although it took over operation of the McGill dances in the summer of 1973 and its members were involved in speaking engagements during the rest of the year, the AHM/GMA didn't really get moving until January 1974, after it had incorporated and when it held its first general meeting. (See also January 11, 1974.)
