February 14 Toronto Five people attended the inaugural meeting of the Gay Alliance toward Equality (GATE) (Toronto). Jearld Moldenhauer was a key force in its formation. Other influential early members included Michael Lynch, Ken Popert, and Tom Warner. GATE (Toronto) was the successor to TGA in organizing around civil rights issues and became a major force in gay liberation activities in Ontario, fighting for legal reform and championing the cause of John Damien. GATE (Toronto) also sponsored numerous lectures and dances; its activities were documented in the newsletter Gay Rising, GATE (Toronto) was active until 1980.
