August 23—28 Toronto Toronto's daily newspapers were in an uproar over the publication of Gerald Hannon's article "Of Men and Little Boys" in the July—August issue of The Body Politic. Although criminal charges against the paper were threatened, none were laid. An article by Kenneth Bagnell in the Globe and Mail on August 23, entitled "Gay Liberation," in turn raised the ire of some members of the gay community. Bagnell suggested that a federal grant given to CHAT to operate a distress centre had been used to fund The Body Politic, which, he claimed, counselled the seduction of young boys. Two hundred people picketed the Globe and Mail to protest the article. (see also August 25, 1972.)
