Description
September 13 Canada A four-page article by William Spencer entitled "Canada's Leading Homosexual Speaks Out" was to appear in the Weekend magazine supplement of thirty-nine Canadian newspapers. The article, a profile of Paul Bédard of Montreal, founder of the Gemini I club and president of International Sex Equality Anonymous (ISEA), was censored by some of the newspapers; fourteen of the newspapers either tore out the article or refused to include the supplement. In the article, Bédard claimed that ISEA had 4,000 members and that it was affiliated with NACHO; both claims were unlikely. The censorship of the article was raised on March 3, 1970, before the Senate committee on mass media.
