Description

November 7 Ottawa In the House of Commons, Bud Orange (LIB-Northwest Territories) asked Justice Minister Pierre Trudeau whether he would consider amending the Criminal Code "so that Canadians will not be subjected to preventive detention because they are victims of an unfortunate social disease (homosexuality)." The question, arising from the Supreme Court's verdict in the Klippert case, was ruled out of order, and Trudeau did not reply. Outside the Commons, Trudeau told reporters that "there will be something on preventive detention — whether it's too liberal or not liberal enough" in his forthcoming omnibus bill to amend the Criminal Code (Bill C-150).
