Description
Montréal Joli tambour, a play by Jean Basile (pseudonym, of Jean-Basile Bezroudnoff), was published by Editions du jour. Based on historical events from New France in the 1750s, Joli tambour told the story of a drummer boy charged with rape who agreed to become the local executioner in order to escape a sentence of death. A gang of prisoners attempts to rape him, and the character LaRose is a bullying homosexual. Joli tambour was performed in English (as The Drummer Boy) in Toronto in January 1968.
