Biography

Rick Stenhouse was director of the Toronto bathhouse the Barracks and prominent member of University of Guelph Homophile Association (UGHA). In December 1978 police raided the Barracks, and Stenhouse was charged with being a keeper of a common bawdy house; he was acquitted in 1981. One day after the trial adjourned, Stenhouse and several other men were charged with conspiracy to possess proceeds obtained by crime and other charges, related to the February 5, 1981 bathhouse raids. Charges were dropped in exchange for a guilty plea of possession of obscene materials for distribution, and Stenhouse was fined $2,000.
