February 28 Montréal André Brassard's film Il était une fois dans l'est / Once Upon a Time in the East premiered at the Fleur-de-Lys theatre. Starring Denise Filiatrault, Michelle Rossignol, and Frédérique Collin, the film's screenplay was by Brassard and Michel Tremblay. Adapted from some of Tremblay's works, the film presented connected stories of a working-class housewife and a bar populated by lesbians and gays. Some of Tremblay's greatest characters appeared in the work, including Hosanna, Cuirette, and the Duchess de Langeais. Ilitait unefois dans l'est was shown in competition at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21,1974.
