April Montréal An independent collective (including John Blacklock, Frank Brayton, Robert Burns, Tony Farebrother, and Kelly Rivard) began publishing the English-language monthly news journal Gay Times in response to increased police harassment of the gay community. The police crackdown was intended to clean up the city's gay life in preparation for the 1976 summer Olympics. Gay Times was formed to monitor police actions and to press for organized reaction from the community. The paper ceased publication in spring 1976, after only eight issues.
