Herbert Whittaker

Biography

Herbert Whittaker was a Canadian film maker, writer, director, and set designer. He moved to Toronto in 1949, and began working at the Jupiter Theatre and the Crest Theatre. In 1961 he gained notoriety for his work on an Inuit inspired version of King Lear, and his work as a director at a number of University of Toronto productions. He was also a prolific theatre critic, working for the Montréal Gazette, and the Globe and Mail.
