April Edmonton The AHRC refused to proceed with an inquiry into job discrimination based on sexual orientation because sexual orientation was not included in Alberta's Individual's Rights Protection Act. Bob Shumaker had lodged a complaint with the commission after he quit his job in August 1980 at Celanese of Canada, an Edmonton chemical company, following continual harassment by co-workers who discovered he was gay.
