January 4 Toronto Five men charged with being keepers of a common bawdy house in the Barracks trial were ordered by Provincial Court Judge Harold A. Rice to stand trial without a jury on January 28, 1979. They launched an appeal to the Supreme Court of Ontario. The men appeared in Ontario Provincial Court on January 28, 1979, but the proceedings were adjourned because of the motion pending in the Supreme Court of Ontario. (See also April 8, 1980.)
