March 13 Toronto AGE chose George Hislop as a candidate for alderman in the November 1980 election in Ward 6, which included most of downtown Toronto's gay community. More than 200 people attended the meeting, held at the 519 Church Street Community Centre. Hislop was the first openly gay candidate to run for elected civic office in Toronto's history.
