Description

August 11 Vancouver More than 400 people rallied in Robson Square to protest the lack of police response to anti-gay violence in the city. This was the largest gay rally held in Vancouver to that date. Police Chief Winterton called the rally "an overreaction". His offer to meet privately with representatives of the gay community was rebuffed with calls for a public meeting. Later, the Gay/Police Dialogue, a liaison committee between the city's gay community and the Vancouver Police Department, was established.
