Description

February 3 Toronto The BPFPF and the Mariposa Film Group co-sponsored the Canadian premiere of the documentary Word Is Out: Stories of Some of Our Lives. More than 300 people attended the screening, held at the University of Toronto Education Auditorium. Later in the year, when the film came into general release, the Ontario Board of Film Censors gave it a Restricted rating (restricting it to people eighteen years or older) even though Word Is Out contained no sex, violence, or bad language. The restriction was thwarted in October 1978, however, when Word Is Out was shown on PBS cable television.
