December 31 Toronto Members of the Body Politic collective together with lawyer Clayton Ruby held a press conference to denounce the police raid on the newspaper's offices the day before as an attack on freedom of the press. Ruby said that he would initiate an action in the Supreme Court of Ontario to squash the search warrant and demand that everything taken in the raid be returned.
