Description

March Vancouver GATE (Vancouver) was refused rental of office space at because the owner of the property, Gordon Latham Ltd., would not rent to a gay organization. The company later insisted that the refusal was linked to the group's past performance as tenants. Members of GATE organized a picket in front of the building on March 23, 1976, and submitted a complaint to the Human Rights Branch of the B.C. Ministry of Labour. The complaint was rejected, as discrimination based on sexual orientation was not prohibited in section 5 of the B.C. Human Rights Code, relating to tenancy.
