Description

September Edmonton The Alberta Human Rights Commission presented its report on recommendations for reform to the Alberta Individual Rights Protection Act to Premier Peter Lougheed's Progressive Conservative government. The report had been made after the commission heard presentations from public groups, including the Gay Alliance toward Equality (GATE) (Edmonton). The recommendations included adding "sexual preference" to the act. The Alberta government suppressed the recommendations and did not table the commission's report in the legislature until April 1978, after which it declared that only minor changes would be made to the act and that "sexual preference" would not be included.
