May 8 Toronto Members of GATE (Toronto) distributed leaflets to many of the 250 people attending a public meeting of the candidates for leadership of the federal NDP. Michael Riordon of GATE (Toronto) was able to ask the candidates their position on gays and the Canada Immigration Act. All candidates (including Ed Broadbent and Lorne Nystrom), although uncomfortable with the question, admitted that the prohibition of "these people" was unjust and should be eliminated from the Act.
