April Ottawa MPP Michael Cassidy (NDP -Ottawa-Centre) endorsed the Committee to Defend John Damien and also declared his support for the inclusion of a sexual orientation clause in the Ontario Human Rights Code. Cassidy had come to support this position after the death of Warren Zufelt in the "Ottawa Sex Scandal" affair.
