July 23 New Westminster, B.C. Members of GATE (Vancouver) participated in a picket organized by the Prisoners' Union Committee in support of striking inmates at the penitentiary in New Westminster. The inmates were on strike to demand recognition of a prisoners' union and the right to collective bargaining, GATE (Vancouver) supported sexual rights for prisoners, particularly the right of conjugal visits from wives or lovers.
