Description

March 7 New York, N.Y. The film Montreal Main was released with a showing at the Whitney Museum. Its co-author, co-producer, editor, director, and star was Frank Vitale, a twenty-eight-year-old Florida-born photographer. Montreal Main chronicled the close, Platonic friendship between a man and a thirteen-year-old boy. Their relationship is cut short due to social restrictions and the difference in their age. Montreal Main was one of the first English-Canadian films to give a positive portrayal of homosexuality. It was released in Canada on April 14,1974, at the City Nights threatre and in Montreal (with French subtitles) on October 18,1974, at the Elysée.
