January 25 Montréal The Centre homophile urbain de Montreal (CHUM) was formed at a meeting of twelve people organized by Lionel Quessy. This conservative group offered pastoral-style counselling, social functions, a Roman Catholic religious service, and an Alcoholics Anonymous group. The CHUM drop-in centre was located at 5223, rue St. Denis and was open six days per week. By May 1975, CHUM had 150 members, mostly francophone, of whom forty were women. In December 1975, the CHUM centre moved to a larger space at 6581, boul. St. Laurent.
