Description

August 25-29 Montréal The annual meeting of the American Sociological Association included a discussion entitled "Theoretical Perspectives on Homosexuality," during which Edward Sagarin (a.k.a. Donald Webster Cory), professor of sociology at the City College of New York and author (as Cory) of such classics as The Homosexual in America: A Subjective Approach (1951) and The Homosexual and His Society: A View from Within (1963), urged homosexuals to go straight. Sagarin's view was opposed by four discussants, including Laud Humphries, who declared his own homosexuality. On August 27, a gay caucus of the ASA was founded by Barry Adam and Ron Lawson.
