Description

July 11 Ottawa Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau confirmed in the House of Commons that suspected homosexuality was one of the factors considered by the government before clearing any federal employee to handle classified documents. Trudeau made the disclosure in response to a series of questions on security asked earlier by Erik Nielsen (PC-Yukon). Gay groups across Canada opposed this policy and sent letters of protest to local members of Parliament, Solicitor-General Warren Allmand, and Prime Minister Trudeau.
