Description
March Montréal The Women's Committee of GAY sponsored a second dance for lesbians, after which members of the Committee decided to leave GAY. These women found GAY to be overwhelmingly male in membership and outlook, and were determined to start an independent lesbian organization in Montreal. They continued holding social evenings and consciousness-raising groups, which were the basis for the formation of the group Montreal Gay Women. Some of the members of the Committee were also involved in organizing the Women's Centre, which opened at 3764, boul. St. Laurent on May 1, 1973. (See also July 1973.)
