Description

February 25-April 8 Vancouver At a general meeting of GATE (Vancouver) held February 25, the membership decided to launch a formal protest against the Georgia Straight's cavalier attitude towards gay liberation, its mutilation of material submitted by GATE, and the overt sexism and homophobia that sometimes appeared in its editorials and cartoons. A series of charges and countercharges soon emerged from both sides. The Straight claimed that GATE was a "Trotskyist Front." GATE threatened to picket the offices of the Straight, which it finally did on March 29 and 30, 1973, but to no avail. On April 8, GATE called for a boycott of the paper.
