Description

September 26 Vancouver Progressive Conservative leader Robert Stanfield spoke before an audience of 1,500 University of British Columbia students as part of his campaign leading up to the October 30 federal election. During question period Maurice Flood, chairperson of GATE (Vancouver), asked where Stanfield stood on the passage of a common age of consent for homosexuals and on the removal of gays from among the list of persons prohibited from immigrating to Canada. Flood's questions were both hissed and cheered by the students. Stanfield replied, "I just have to tell you very frankly, very bluntly, that I want to leave the laws where they are."
