August 26 Toronto A rally and march of 200 people representing Canadian and American gay groups made its way from the Ontario Legislature down University Avenue to Toronto City Hall to mark Gay Pride Week. The event was sponsored by CHAT and TGA. Gays and their supporters sang songs, including "We are here because we're queer / because we're queer / because we're here / 2, 4, 6, 8 / gay is just as good as straight / 3, 5, 7, 9 / lesbians are mighty fine / 2, 4, 6, 8 / is your husband (wife) really straight /.... " Other chants included "Hey, hey, what do you say / try it on the other way."
